Preliminary inquiry due in case of Cappagh priest

February 2, 2012 at 7:05 am

A PRELIMINARY Inquiry is to take place next month in the case of the Cappagh-based priest, Fr Eugene Boland, who faces four charges of indecently assaulting a female.

The case was adjourned when it was heard at Magherafelt Magistrates yesterday. The 65-year-old did not appear in court.

The case has been adjourned and the preliminary inquiry fixed for Magherafelt court on March 22 next.

Fr Boland, whose address is given as the Parochial House at Killyclogher Road, Omagh, stepped down as PP of Cappagh Parish last year when the investigation began.

He had been originally due to appear at Derry Magistrates Court on the four charges last month, but the hearing was adjourned until yesterday.

That adjournment followed an application by defence solicitor, Kevin McGuigan, who said that his client was not in a position to proceed with the hearing on that occasion.
