Police investigate rape of teenager in Omagh

January 26, 2012 at 11:27 am

THREE men were arrested after a teenage girl was reportedly raped in Omagh last Friday morning.

Details of the incident only emerged this week as police continued their investigations into the attack. The incident occurred in a flat in the James Street area of the town in the early hours of Friday morning, January 20.

Police received a report at 5.30am that a girl in her mid-teens had been sexually assaulted in the flat and PSNI officers and an ambulance attended the scene.

Three men were arrested soon afterwards and questioned in relation to the attack. They were later released on police bail. It is understood that the victim and those arrested have addresses in the Omagh area.

In a follow-up operation, police seized CCTV footage from a number of cameras in the area in a bid to trace the movements of individuals.

A police spokesman said, “Police can confirm that they are investigating a report of a serious sexual assault on a teenage female on the morning of Friday, January 20 in the James Street area of Omagh.

“Three men aged 41, 37 and 36 were arrested on suspicion of rape a short time after the report was received. They were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
