Mid-Ulster ‘Murder Triangle’ families still seeking answers

January 26, 2012 at 11:09 am

THE daughter of an SDLP official shot dead within the notorious Mid-Ulster ‘Murder Triangle’ during the mid-1970s believes families still deserve answers as to why their loved ones were killed in the area.

Denis Mullen was shot dead by Loyalists in Moy on September 1 1975. His wife Olive had to run across fields to escape from the gunmen.

Now Mr Mullen’s daughter, Denise, has told the Ulster Herald that certain information in relation to the murder is still outstanding. In particular, she wants to know who sanctioned the attack and why her father was singled out.

Ms Fox is working with the Pat Finucane Centre to raise awareness of this murder and others at Pomeroy, Cappagh and Coalisland in 1974 and 1975.
Tonight (Thursday) she and other families of those killed will attend a multi-media presentation featuring the murders at a special showing in Coalisland.

Ms Fox says the memories of that night are still very vivid and recalls how she sat beside the body of her dead father just minutes after he had been murdered.
“We want to know why my father was murdered and who singled him out,” she said.

“Finding those things out would bring closure as to why he was singled out, it’s a choice which is made. It is important for the families and victims that their questions are answered."
