MOTORISTS coming into Omagh town centre now have the chance to avail of a cashless payment system for pay and display parking.
Omagh is one of four towns throughout the North which have been selected for the system, which was introduced at the start of this week. For the fist time, shoppers and drivers will be able to register and then make one phone call to start their parking and another to stop it on return to their vehicle.
The Department for Regional Development says that the system will mean that customers are free to go about their business safe in the knowledge that their parking payment has been taken care of.
The system is operational in the town’s pay and display parking areas.
DRD Minister, Danny Kennedy said motorists would not longer have to accurately estimate how long they would be staying.
“This will free up people from having to return to their vehicle if they want to stay longer, provided that they do not exceed the maximum permitted stay period shown on the signs,” he said.
