Bon Marché staff launch petition to save their jobs

January 26, 2012 at 11:24 am

STAFF at Omagh’s branch of the ill-fated Bon Marché outlet have vowed that they won’t give up their jobs without a fight after it was announced on Monday evening that the local store is to close.

The clothing chain, which was acquired by The Peacock’s Group in 2002, was separated from the Cardiff based retail giant last week after it went into administration.

Instead, the brand was bought over by investment firm Sun European Partners on Monday, who have announced plans it is to axe 160 stores, including the outlet in Omagh town centre.

While staff have yet to be informed of the date of the closure, temporary designate manager at Bon Marché Omagh, Clara Lyttle, told the Ulster Herald yesterday (Wednesday) that staff had begun requesting the support of customers and the general public via a petition in an attempt to overturn the decision to shut the store.
