CLAIMS that officials or players from Derrytresk were involved in unsavoury tactics during the club’s All-Ireland Junior Club semi-final at the weekend are being strongly rejected.
The manager and several supporters of the defeated Dromid team made the allegations in the aftermath of the emphatic win for the Tyrone champions. They want to see a replay of the match which was marred by fighting shortly before half-time in the match.
But Tyrone County Chairman, Ciaran McLaughlin, says that there is a need for balance when dealing with the incident through the normal GAA channels.
“It is important to point out that the GAA is investigating the alleged incidents through the normal and proper channels,” he said.
“This incident was dealt with at the time by the referee. If there are others found to have breached the rules through a further investigation, then they deserve and should be punished.”
In a statement released as the aftermath of the incident reached its height on Tuesday of this week, the Derrytresk club said that they were concentrating on preparing for the biggest day in their history.
“It is disturbing to be on the receiving end of a number of quite serious allegations which have been aimed directly at our club,” they said.
