Omagh powerlifter wins Euopean title

A FORMER Omagh man was part of the successful Irish Powerlifting team which secured eight gold medals at the recent European Championships in Estonia.

Mick Coleman, who now lives across the border in Stranorlar, Co Donegal, was a member of the successful four-man team which saw off stiff competition from a host of major nations to stockpile an impressive haul of honours in the prestigious event which was held over the weekend of September 16-18th.

The 36-year-old won two individual golds in the benchpress discipline in the 100kgs senior category.

The European Single Lift Championships is one of the stand-out competitions on the international Powerlifting calendar, but rather than be fazed by the occasion, Mick more than rose to the challenge.

It was the undoubted high point of his lifting career to date.
