A SKIMMING device used to fraudulently gain access to ATM users bank accounts was discovered in Omagh town centre at the weekend.
The device - which allows fraudsters to clone a bank card - was discovered by Santander bank staff at Market Street in Omagh on Saturday. On the same day a similar device was found at an ATM in Enniskillen.
Police are advising local people to check cash machines before use. A police spokesman said, “Fraudsters use a number of different devices to capture information from bank cards. These include mini cameras and attachments that fit over the card slot.
“Be on the lookout for devices such as these. If you spot anything unusual, do not touch it, but alert staff at the premises or police.”
It is not known how long this skimming machine was at the ATM in Omagh.
Police have advised those who feel they may have been the victim of this scam to contact their banks.
